This is the kind of news that can have hip-hop fans in a total frenzy. After collaborating last year on the Renegade Edition of DJ Hero, Jay-Z and Eminem have announced that they will be performing together for a pair of shows in both of their hometowns. Eminem made the official announcement at Game Two of the NY Yankees vs. Detroit Tigers game in Detroit [surprisingly not on Twitter] on Wednesday [May 12th]. "This is a once-in-a-lifetime set of shows, and I know we're both really going to bring it to our hometowns," Eminem told the baseball fans. "The fans are going to love this and so am I. It's going to be historic."
Per AllHipHop.com, on September 2nd, the first Jay-Z/Eminem performance will happen in Detroit's Comerica Park. A few weeks later [date to be announced], Jay and Em will be the first artists to ever perform in the new Yankees Stadium in the Bronx. While Jay-Z is from Brooklyn (not the Bronx), the union of New York and Detroit is still something to be marked in hip-hop history. A performance of "Renegade" [off Jay-Z's ‘The Blueprint'] will obviously be in the cards.
This news arrives just as Eminem's single "Not Afraid" debuted at Number One on the Billboard Hot 100. Per Rap-Up.com, Em's single is the 16th song to ever debut at Number One in the chart's 52-year history. The last one to make that kind of mark was Britney Spears last October with her single "3". According to Nielsen Soundscan, the digitally released "Not Afraid" tip the digi-scales at 380,000 downloads.
New rappers arrive daily, but it's clear that there is always room for the veterans to keep making history.
