VH1 announced today that super-producer Timbaland will be honored at the first Hip-Hop Honors dedicated to the Dirty South. The special, which will air on Monday, June 7th at 9PM, is the first time in Hip-Hop Honors' seven-year run that one region will be dedicated for its music. The Dirty South has been an ongoing force in Hip-Hop for years, and VH1 felt it necessary to host an award show honoring the South's contributions. However, many feel a certain way about Hip-Hop Honors in general and therefore will not be present for this historical event. VIBE reported that Uncle Luke made some remarks about the ceremony after hearing that he would only be honored as a member of 2 Live Crew and not for his solo contributions to Hip-Hop.
"For an organization like VH1 to try to say I'm just the first person to go to the Supreme Court over music censorship and be a part of the 2 Live Crew...I told them the other day, 'Just go f**k yourself,'" Luke said. "I don't want to be a part of it unless you honor what I've done in a proper way. I've never asked anyone to do anything. But when you ask me to be a part of something, I'm not going to let you disrespect me."
Rap veteran Scarface will also not be in attendance and voiced his frustrations to Ozone Magazine. "I'm Hip Hop, man. I'm not going because I feel slighted. Even though it was a nice gesture, I feel like it's just a pacifier," Scarface said about Hip-Hop Honors. "They're like, 'Let's give these n***as down there a pacifier so they can stop feeling left out. We'll make Luke and all these n***as down there look funny,' you know?"
VH1 Hip-Hop Honors: The Dirty South will be hosted by actor/comedian Craig Robinson of 'The Office' and will include Southern Rap representatives like Bun B, Lil Jon, T-Pain, Master P, Pitbull, Jermaine Dupri, and Trina among others.
