slipknotFollowing the tragic death of Slipknot bassist Paul Gray on Monday, the eight remaining members of Slipknot, along with Gray's widow and brother, held a press conference yesterday to discuss the situation. The band sat together, without their masks on for the first time in public, and sadly and recollected their fallen brethren, soft-spoken, and choking back tears.

Frontman Corey Taylor summed up the best way he could, saying Gray, "was everything that was wonderful about this band and about this group of people. The only way I can sum up Paul Gray is ‘love'. Everything he did, he did for everyone around him whether he knew you or not ... and that's what he left behind for us, is absolute love," Taylor said. "I will miss him with every fiber of my heart. He was the best of us."

Percussionist M. Shawn Crahan said, "It's very important that everybody on the outside of us understands that Paul Gray was the essence of the band Slipknot, and Paul was there from the very, very, very beginning." Crahan continued, "Paul loved the fans. He was kind of the person in the band that really wanted everybody in the band to always get along and just concentrate on the band. He was a really great friend and a really great person. He's going to be sadly missed, and the world is going to be a different place without him."

"It's very hard for my right now," said drummer Joey Jordison. "I just want to say that I love you, Paul, very much. You'll be sorely missed by the world over."

Gray's widow, Brenna Gray, spoke last, with Paul's unborn child still inside her. "Paul was my husband, an amazing person, and I want people to remember him for that," she said. "And his daughter will remember him for the way he was." Gray's child is expected in September.

According to the final autopsy results, no cause of death was found, but the investigation is still underway. The Medical Examiner is awaiting results from the toxicology results in a few weeks to see if anything is uncovered.
