rammsteinBritish heavy metal legends Iron Maiden will headline next year's edition of the U.K.'s Sonisphere festival, which will be held Friday, July 30 - Sunday, August 1, 2010 at Knebworth House.

The event will also feature Alice Cooper, Mötley Crüe, Iggy And The Stooges, Anthrax, Mastodon, Rammstein, The Cult and Slayer.

Rammstein's appearance will mark their first ever UK festival show.

Prior to playing a few selected dates next summer, Iron Maiden is currently working on a new album expected to be released late next year.

Commented frontman Bruce Dickinson: "Knebworth has been the home of so many legendary concerts going back many years it really will be a privilege to play there. We enjoy the camaraderie of playing great festivals and are very much looking forward to getting back out to do some shows next summer and, as it will be over two years since we played the U.K., we will certainly be looking to deliver a memorable and spectacular night for our fans!"

In addition, Metallica's official web site has been updated with the following message:

"We are now entering the June portion of the 'random tour announcement' derby and today's installment is one that is particularly exciting for us as we are proud to tell you that we will again be headlining the Sonisphere festival, now embarking upon its second year in existence.

"The first show of the traveling festival will be on June 16 at Bemowo Airport in Warsaw, Poland and joining us are some longtime friends . . . Slayer, Anthrax and Mastodon."
