Pop Shots In A Giving Mood By: Adam Bernard Last updated November 18th , 2009
Welcome to your weekly dose of pop world musings. Covering all things pop culture, this week Pop Shots is hitting you with thoughts on everything from Britney Spears giving herself to Satan, to New Kid on the Block Joey McIntyre giving a solo career another try, to Bruce Springsteen giving some geographically incorrect shout outs, and since it's Pop Shots you know everything is seasoned with a little bit of attitude.
* It looks as though Britney Spears is finally being open about her close affiliation with Satan. It really makes sense; I mean, how else could her career have lasted this long? Is there any other way she could have gone through all the train wreck situations she's gone through and still be in the position she's in? This is why the following tweets from her came as no surprise to me:
I hope that the new world order will arrive as soon as possible! -Britney
I give myself to Lucifer every day for it to arrive as quickly as possible. Glory to Satan!
OK, so MAYBE her Twitter account was hacked (in fact, it was), but I would still love to do a sit down interview her and lead off with "Britney, tell me about your Satan worship. When did it start and how do you feel it's helped you throughout your career?" If she were to have really sold her soul, though, Satan probably would have delivered her something better than Kevin Federline. If not, souls seriously aren't going for what they used to. Although it IS a recession, so maybe...
* In news that has me, and millions of other Saved By The Bell fans heartbroken, Kelly Kapowski is pregnant... and it isn't even by Zack! Thankfully, it also has nothing to do with Jeff, that sleazy former boss of hers from The Max, either. In reality Tiffani Theissen and her husband, Brady Smith, told People Magazine the news that they're expecting their first child, which is due in May. I will now drown my sorrows at The Attic. Who wants to join me?
* Because no one on earth, except for maybe his close friends and relatives, were clamoring for it, New Kid on the Block Joey McIntyre released a solo EP this week. In an interview with Billboard.com McIntyre said, "Every two or three years I just get itchy and I want to make a new record." That first thing he should probably see a doctor about, as it sounds like the few New Kids groupies that are left may not be the clean fresh faced teens he was dealing with 20 years ago. As for making a new record, McIntyre's seven song effort titled Here We Go Again is now available at digital retailers... and in my nightmares.
* When old people tour funny things happen. Bruce Springsteen apparently forgot to take his Ginkgo Biloba before his show at the Auburn Hills Palace in Michigan last week as he opened the show by saying "Hello, Ohio!" and continually made references to the home of the Indians, Browns and Cavs throughout the start of his show. Eventually E Street band guitarist Steven Van Zandt whispered the correct state in the 60 year old rocker's ear. I bet Bruce wishes he was born to run out of that situation. I gotta give him some props, though, as he performed a nearly three hour set. How many artists even have the material to do that?
* According to an SI.com report, The Who will be the latest in a long line of AARP aged Super Bowl halftime performers as they are rumored to be tuning up to rock Super Bowl XLIV in February of 2010. The NFL has yet to confirm the report, but I hear the league is already prepping the censors just in case Pete Townshend makes an attempt to reveal Roger Daltrey's nipple ring. I understand the NFL doesn't want a repeat of the Janet Jackson fiasco, but when the huge youth audience that the league has right now hears the news about this halftime show they won't be shouting "The Who!" Instead, they'll be quizzically wondering, "The who?" Or, at best, they'll say, "you mean that group that does the CSI theme song?"
* The Pop Shots video pick of the week comes from one of my favorite new artists - Lights. This past week she debuted the video for her latest single, "Ice," which happens to be one of my favorite songs off of The Listening, and the highly creative clip is a nice reminder that there are still people in the music industry that are willing, and able, to do cool, inventive, things.
And with that, my time is up for the week, but I'll be back next week with more shots on all things pop.

Right now I'm reading a lot about music. It almost sounds oxymoronic. To read about music, when music is what you listen to. But music, like many of the arts, is something that touches all of your senses. Now, I am not going to muse on the Kindle, and how it is going ruin literature and the literary process of digesting reading materials. I do love the bookshelves that runs width wise under my low windows of my cond Read More ...

I wanted to set the table with this edition of "R.eal A.nd P.ersonal" for columns to come on the subject of the Female Emcee. As time goes on, I will slowly phase out that title and hope that you will do the same. Because face it, calling a woman that raps, a female emcee, is like calling an African-American that plays the position of quarterback, a black quarterback. Ability should be sexless. We must change how we Read More ...
