Welcome to your weekly dose of pop world musings. Covering all things pop culture, this week Pop Shots is hitting you with thoughts on everything from Dancing With The Stars finding some hot celebrities willing to test their skills, to a hot new voice for Smurfette, to a famous family getting themselves in some really hot water, and since it's Pop Shots, you know everything is seasoned with a little bit of attitude.

nicole%20scherzinger* This season's lineup for Dancing With The Stars was announced this past week and it includes three people we've all seen naked - Pam Anderson, Shannen Doherty and Erin Andrews - and one person I would definitely like to see naked ... no, not Buzz Aldrin, I'm talking about the lead Pussycat Doll, Nicole Scherzinger. As an aside, when did Erin Andrews become a "star?" I'm guessing if it wasn't for last year's peephole scandal she wouldn't be on this show. I bet she never thought that video would end up helping her career. FYI - There is still no truth to the rumor that I have turned my peephole around in an effort to gain enough fame to warrant a spot on Dancing With The Stars, so stop checkin!

* Katy Perry has signed on to be the voice of Smurfette for the upcoming Smurfs movie, the cast of which already includes Neil Patrick Harris, who will be the only live action character, George Lopez, Allan Cumming and Jonathan Winters. It's probably a good thing Perry is only voicing Smurfette, because if she was playing her all of a sudden, we'd have a plethora of teen boys masturbating to The Smurfs. It's bad enough they're already thinking about it during her Proactiv commercial and not paying attention to her message regarding clear skin, but defiling Smurfette would cross the line.

* Shakira received a medal from the U.N labor agency last week for her work helping impoverished children. She has yet to receive a medal for helping a disarmingly handsome writer who would like to see her shake her booty at their place ... say, around 10ish, Friday night? C'mon, Shakira, you know you're reading this!

bret%20miley* Miley Cyrus and Bret Michaels are together. No, this is not some pedophiliac's version of Rock of Love, but it may be a distinct sign of the apocalypse as the unlikely pairing are providing guest vocals on each other' albums. Cyrus is on Michaels' next single, "Nothing to Lose," the title of which is poetically hilarious being that at his peak Michaels fronted one of the biggest rock bands on earth and for this song he's enlisting the help of a seventeen year old girl, and Michaels will be on Cyrus' cover of "Every Rose Has Its Thorn." The latter may actually rip 70's and 80's babies' souls in half. What did we ever do to deserve this?

* According to Michigan regulators (mount up!), a member of the Winans family led a ponzi scheme that was a fraudulent, multimillion dollar investment program promoting bogus Saudi Oil bonds. The Winans in question is Michael Winans, who, in an all-out effort to get sent directly to hell, allegedly bilked Detroit residents out of millions through his church. It's doubtful that Mario Winans knew anything about it, though, since he likes to stay blissfully ignorant of everything.

* Fans of Fox's breakout hit Glee will have an opportunity to get a little closer to their favorite show as the cast will be hitting the road for a four city tour. Wait a minute. A "four city tour?" I'm sorry, but there's a place in America where you can stand in four states at once, so you're gonna have to do a little better than four cities to call it a "tour" in my book. Step it up, Glee!

* Freaknik, the long deceased black fraternity event that sent thousands to the Atlanta area to party it up, received an animated makeover from T-Pain over the weekend when Cartoon Network debuted the hourlong Freaknik: The Musical. The special, which will no doubt be rerun a lot, and end up on DVD, featured numerous big names from the hip-hop and entertainment worlds, including Snoop Dogg, Lil' Wayne, Charlie Murphy, and T-Pain himself, who played the Ghost of Freaknik Past. The Freaknik celebration was always one that caused problems, as do most events that bring that many people together in a party atmosphere, and in a moment of supreme intelligence, according to the AP, "(T-Pain) was quick to add that while Freaknik may be great for the cartoon world, it's probably not the best idea in actuality." Of course, why would he need Freaknik when HE'S ON A BOAT!

And with that, my time is up for the week, but I'll be back next week with more shots on all things pop.

With Memorial Day this coming Monday (May 31, 2010) it's the official kick-off to the summer season and as always it seems that country radio has stuck to their formula for how songs should be played seasonally.  In the fall/winter months we are given more ballads about love and loss and everything in between, in the spring and summer we're given fun little 'ditties' that are designed to be nothing more than enjoyab Read More ...
