Pop Shots Expected the Unexpected By: Adam Bernard Last updated May 5th , 2010
Welcome to your weekly dose of pop world musings. Covering all things pop culture, this week Pop Shots is hitting you with thoughts on everything from all the unexpectedly positive talk coming out of Bret Michaels' camp, to the Country Music Awards' totally unexpected, and totally fantastic, choice of a host for their show, to something very unexpected coming out of a woman's nether regions, and since it's Pop Shots you know everything is seasoned with a little bit of attitude.
* In the best news coming from Bret Michaels' camp in weeks, it looks like there's a distinct possibility the rocker might be able to make the live season finale of Celebrity Apprentice on May 23rd. Michaels, determined not to let the brain hemorrhage that sent him to the hospital get him down, also plans to resume touring on the 26th and expects to be on the road with Lynyrd Skynyrd this summer. A clear fan favorite on Celebrity Apprentice due to his good natured-ness, Michaels is someone I'm rooting for. Of course, I'm also rooting for Maria Kanellis, but that's for other reasons. Hey, I made it through that whole news piece without referencing a single Poison song! Let's "Unskinny Bop" to that! Oh, wait ... damnit!
* Richmond, VA radio station Q94 WRVQ found out that Chris Brown's anger management classes might not be working as well as one might have hoped. On Thursday the singer was at the station to promote his upcoming Haiti benefit concert in the city when all of a sudden he started demanding to know why the station wasn't playing more of his songs. He then stormed out of the interview and had a curse filled tirade. The good news for Haiti is Brown now has to put a couple dollars in the swear jar and that will be going to benefit the country. See, he does care!
* Apparently I'm going to be watching the Country Music Awards this summer because they've found a host that is going to make sure it ends up a totally unpredictable time - Kid Rock. Yes, the man who once rapped "I'ma paint his town red, then paint his wife white" will be in Nashville on June 9th to host the ceremonies that celebrate the best country has to offer. Can we expect midgets, strippers, or Kid Rock to attempt to have a threesome with Taylor Swift and Carrie Underwood? When asked, his lone comment on his duties was "all I can promise is I will be awesome." I'm not doubting that for one second.
* Disney is about to hit listeners, and parents who have been thrilled to finally have the High School Musical soundtrack not running on a continuous loop in their homes, with their next musical endeavor - Lemonade Mouth. Based on the novel by Mark Peter Hughes ... do you really care about the plot? All you have to know is Disney is going to get kids singing the songs and buying the soundtrack. Lemonade Mouth will debut in the fall, a few months after Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam, and the inevitable pothead version of it, which will be called Cotton Mouth, will be written the day after it airs.
* In more movie news, the Dark Knight will be returning in 2012! Starring Christian Bale and directed by Christopher Nolan, the third in the latest series of Batman movies has an announced release date of July 20th, 2012. Unfortunately, that's all we know as of now. The title, plot, villain, or villains, and any potential outbursts regarding lighting, are still under wraps.
* The numbers are in and according to the IFPI (International Federation of the Phonographic Industry) global music sales fell 7% in 2009. The physical product was down 12.7% globally, while digital sales rose 9.2%. The foolish people in the industry will tout this as an illustration that they're doing something right with digital music. The smart ones will be noting that they're not making nearly enough money from digital sales to make up for the loss they're taking in physical sales. The REALLY smart ones will get this news two months from now when it reaches the small island they bought in the late 90's with all the money they banked when the industry was healthy.
* Because numbers like those mentioned above are oh-so-inspiring, at least to the totally insane, David Letterman has jumped into the music business. His production company, Worldwide Pants Inc., has formed its own record label, and signed punk rock duo Road Runner. I was never on Baywatch, so I'm no expert in water safety, but I really don't think it's a good idea to board a ship that has more leaking holes than people who know how to plug them up. Maybe Letterman knows what he's doing, but nothing about this seems like a good idea.
* Finally, this week I'm wrapping things up with some important news regarding the female anatomy: women can release butterflies from their nether regions. I'm serious! If you don't believe me check out this documentary... errr, music video, by Julieta Venegas.
And with that, my time is up for the week, but I'll be back next week with more shots on all things pop.

There's nothing wrong with taking a pause. And that's exactly what's happening with this column until I am directed otherwise. I've spent the past two years musing on the music industry as an entity, along with lots of strolls (and sprints) down memory lane, with technology nipping at my back and my heels. I sincerely hope this pause is a short one, or one that doesn't get extended, but if that is not the case, I wa Read More ...
