Pop Shots Heartbreak Hotel By: Adam Bernard Last updated June 9th , 2010
Welcome to your weekly dose of pop world musings. Covering all things pop culture, this week Pop Shots is hitting you with thoughts on everything from recent relationship heartbreaks for a Saved By The Bell grad and Miley Cyrus, to M.I.A.'s heartbreak over bad press, to the heartbreak experienced by a bunch of spoiled princess when they get told You're Cut Off!, and since it's Pop Shots you know everything is seasoned with a little bit of attitude.
* Although he's still a high schooler in the minds of many of my generation, in reality Zack Morris is a fully grown man. Unfortunately, right now he's also an unhappy man as Mark-Paul Gosselaar and his wife recently separated after 13 years of marriage. The couple have two children together. In a related story, Miley Cyrus reportedly broke up with her boyfriend Liam Hemsworth. I know what you're thinking; two newly single people in Hollywood ... but one was graduating from Bayside High while the other was still in diapers. Actually since this is Hollywood we're talking about, stranger hookups have happened. Right, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas?
* M.I.A. is at war with New York Times writer Lynn Hirschberg over a not so flattering story Hirschberg wrote about her. The not really a singer / not really a rapper went so far as to do the ultimate in internet juvenile acts, posting Hirschberg's phone number on Twitter. Even if the article was a hack job, which I'm not entirely sure it was, M.I.A. needs to grow up. Her act is running very thin, almost as thin as her musical abilities.
* Bret Michaels is back on the road with some very interesting doctor's orders that he has to adhere to - no groupies, no after-parties, and no stage diving. After being what he's been through medically most people would be taking time to rest, not going on tour, but that's not Michaels' style. In an interview with the AP he said "I don't want my legacy to be that I had a brain hemorrhage. I want it to be that I rocked, I treated people with respect and I made a lot of good friends along the way." So ladies, be careful at these shows. A flash of your breasts at just the wrong time could result in a reaction you really weren't looking for and nobody's going to let you give him mouth to mouth.
* I caught the first episode of VH1's latest trashy reality show, You're Cut Off!, and have to say it looks pretty priceless (pun intended). The show revolves around bunch of spoiled princess being forced to live a normal life and fend for themselves, all the while complaining that they normally have the maid do these things for them. One, shockingly, is married, while another told a story about being an investment banker, which seemed about as believable as Lindsey Lohan claiming sobriety. It's basically Tool Academy for girls, and it looks like It's going to be great.
* Sheryl Crow has adopted a second child. Word is after just one day with the singer all he wants to do is have some fun and watch the sun come up over Santa Monica Boulevard. Thankfully, I think Crow still has the money to do that.
* For the week of May 30th album sales dipped to the lowest number for one week sales since Soundscan started tracking the statistic (and thereby ruining music) in 1994. With only 4,948,000 albums moved during the week record labels may have to start finding other methods of creating income... or maybe even get off of their asses and start doing their jobs.
* Tila Tequila, Jason Wahler and Shauna Sand have all entered Dr. Drew's Celebrity Rehab, hoping to make a change in their lives, and give a boost to their careers through the VH1 show. If they're really addicted to something I feel bad for them, but Celebrity Rehab or not, these people's careers couldn't be resurrected if they were cast as extras in the "Thriller" video.
* I want to close this edition of Pop Shots with a pop song ... actually with "Pop Song," comedian Jon Lajoie's latest, hilariously true, music video that defines almost every young male pop group's music from the past twenty years. Enjoy!
And with that, my time is up for the week, but I'll be back next week with more shots on all things pop.

With Memorial Day this coming Monday (May 31, 2010) it's the official kick-off to the summer season and as always it seems that country radio has stuck to their formula for how songs should be played seasonally. In the fall/winter months we are given more ballads about love and loss and everything in between, in the spring and summer we're given fun little 'ditties' that are designed to be nothing more than enjoyab Read More ...
