Pop Shots
Knockouts

justin+bieberWelcome to your weekly dose of pop world musings. Covering all things pop culture, this week Pop Shots is hitting you with thoughts on everything from Justin Bieber's YouTube KO of Lady Gaga, to two artist injuries, to Bayside High's most decorated athlete's new VH1 venture. As an added bonus, this week we also have a Q&A with country pop star Jessie James, and since this is Pop Shots you know everything is seasoned with a little bit of attitude.

* Bad news, universe. With more than 246 million views (and yes, I put my pinky to the corner of mouth as I typed that) Justin Bieber's video for "Baby" is now the most watched clip in the history of YouTube, passing Lady Gaga's "Bad Romance" and making me question society as a whole. If people are going to spend time on YouTube they should at least be spending it wisely, by watching things like the Sharktopus trailer.

* Both Pink and Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry landed in this hospital this past week. Pink found herself there after falling off the stage during a show in Germany when a stunt she was attempting went wrong, while Perry landed in a Massachusetts hospital after the motorcycle he was riding was rear-ended by a car. This was the worst incident linking Pink and Perry since the God-awful Aerosmith song that bore Pink's name.

* VH1 is back to doing what they do best, giving stars from the 80's and 90's new lives with reality shows. Sure, Mario Lopez has been going strong since his Dancing with the Stars appearance in 2006, but something tells me Slater's star is going to shine even brighter this coming fall when VH1 premiers an eight episode show based on he and his girlfriend, Courtney Mazza, preparing for the birth of their first child. Here's hoping the little one is born in an elevator and they wrap hip up in a Bayside High football jersey.

* The other day we picked up the phone here at Pop Shots and were stoked to hear country pop singer Jessie James on the other end of the line. Her latest single, "Boys In The Summer," just hit the airwaves and when she gave us a buzz we asked her about five topics that are related to her life, and she let us know what people definitely need to know about each of them.

Jessie, it's great to hear from you. Congrats on the new single! I'm hoping you can fill everyone in on a few things. What do people definitely need to know about...

jessie+jamesYour upcoming album.
It's the best album of all time. No, I'm kidding. It's better than the first one, that's for sure, and it's way more fun and way more exciting and it's deeper, too. There are a couple songs that are pretty emotional, but there are some really fun ones that are Shania-esque. They're the kind of songs you put on before you go out with your girlfriends, or songs that you roll down the windows and sing along to. These songs are about having a great time. On the last album there were a couple songs where I was a little more sexy on the songs, but this one really isn't that way. I think I've matured a little  to where I don't need to sing about that kind of stuff all the time. I think it gets kind of silly and I don't think there are a lot of artists girls can look up to right now that are also cool and I want to be one of those of artists.

How badly the historical American outlaw, and the guy who cheated on Sandra Bullock, ruined the good Jessie James name (Yes, I know they're spelled differently).
Well, they were boys, and boys, from time to time, screw up (laughs). It might have tainted it a little bit, but you definitely are not going to catch me in jail, or having massive orgies, or cheating on anyone, or stealing money from a bank, that's just not gonna happen with me. The worst trouble I've gotten into recently was I got a parking ticket. Can you believe it? It was $15. I went to the salon and I didn't put money in the little thing, I really genuinely forgot to put a couple quarters in there, so I got in trouble. I wanted to slip $15 bucks in the little envelope, but then I remembered you have to do a check and that's just a mess. I still haven't paid it yet, so it could be a lot of money.

Your bubble blowing skills.
I'm pretty good at it, don't you think? I've actually been in a bubblegum contest, blowing bubbles to win. They give you a while bunch of gum and they have this measuring thing, it's almost like the shape of a bubble, so they see who has the biggest one. I came in second, or third. I think I would win now. I've had a lot more practice. (Side note: we're absolutely convinced this question inspired this tweet, since it came right after our interview)

Country girls.
We definitely all own a pair of Daisy Dukes. I wear them pretty much all the time.  We definitely know how to chew sunflower seeds. I think most country girls have the reputation for being great cooks. I definitely don't do that. I can cook a mean jambalaya, but they're all known as cooks and being real sweethearts and we definitely are, but there are a bunch of country girls that I know that get a little drunk and crazy and start fights in bars. I'm not one of them.

What you look for in a "Boy in the Summer."
(Laughs) He definitely has to be fit. I like guys with nice arms and a good back. He has to have a good tan. That's all part of "Boys in the Summer." They got a good tan and they're a little bit more muscular because they're working out in the yard and they're washing their truck. That's as far as looks go, but they definitely have to be a nice gentleman, which is the name of another one of my songs, "Gentleman." There isn't anything too specific. I just want a nice guy with a good tan. He doesn't need to have a super fake tan, like Jersey Shore people, just a little bit of color. I want to know that he is not a vampire.

So no Twilight for you?
I am not into Robert Pattinson. I am much more of a Taylor Lautner, Jacob, wolf guy. I like 'em tanned and muscled. He has to keep me warm at night.

And with that, my time is up for the week, but I'll be back next week with more shots on all things pop.
