katy%20perryWelcome to your weekly dose of pop world musings. Covering all things pop culture, this week Pop Shots is hitting you with thoughts on everything from Katy Perry taking off to get married, to a 90s pop favorite coming back seemingly everywhere but America, to a major band being forced to cancel their European tour plans, and since it's Pop Shots, you know everything is seasoned with a little bit of attitude.

* For many men out there, myself included, a dream died over the weekend. This is because on Saturday, in India, Katy Perry tied the knot and officially went off the market. For some God unknown reason she chose to tie the knot with ridiculously unfunny English comedian (and I'm using the word "comedian" very loosely here) Russell Brand. Personally I think there are more laughs in the Valentine's chocolates by Russell Stover, even the caramel one no one can ever eat because it's harder than concrete, than Russell Brand's act, but obviously he has powers of hypnosis over Perry. Just for this I'm never eating english muffins again! Wait, I take that back! I love those nooks and crannies. Damn you, England!!!

* I know this may sound like common sense to many, but referencing children in sexual contexts isn't a good idea. Canadian radio host Dean Blundell learned this the hard way when the shock jock started tweeting his distaste for local hero Justin Bieber. Among other things he implied Bieber was gay. When throngs of Bieber's underaged fans went on the attack, Blundell attacked back, telling one commenter "Save your energy for puberty or to fend off your dad tonight while you're sleepin'," and calling another, who was only 12, a "future chugger," which is slang for male prostitute. The Canadian Broadcasting Standards Council found the comments to be "gratuitous and unnecessary" and a violation of the Equitable Portrayal Code, levying out a punishment to the station of making them announce the decision twice on air during peak listening hours. The moral of the story - if you mess with Bieber, or his fans, the Canadian government will get you, and then make you talk about how they got you. OK, so it's not exactly the death penalty, but this is Canada we're talking about, they probably take the convicted to Tim Hortons for a cup of coffee after handing down their decisions.

celine%20dion* Speaking of Canadians, Celine Dion popped out twin boys this past Saturday and is now gearing up for a return to Las Vegas for a three year run, because Vegas is just the perfect place to raise kids. What could be better than introducing them to gambling, prostitution, and excessive drinking before they even hit kindergarten? For show and tell they could bring in a hooker. You know they'll be able to afford it, their mom's Celine Dion.

* Those of us who really loved the 90s have something to look forward to. Jamiroquai is making a comeback! The "Virtual Insanity" group led by the engaging Jay Kay will be releasing Rock Dust Light Star internationally on November first, and in Canada on November 9th. There are also plans to eventually release the album in America sometime in 2011. 2011? Why the lack of love for America, Jay Kay? Can you hook a country up?

* In a true sign of the times in the music industry, the glam pop band Scissor Sisters, who in 2004 sold over 2.5 million copies of their eponymous debut album, have cancelled their European tour dates due to, in their words, "funding issues." They feel it "has become impossible to make the tour work financially." If a band that's sold millions of albums is having "funding issues" that doesn't give a lot of hope to band who haven't sold millions of albums. Let's help em out by giving one of their videos a spin.

And with that, my time is up for the week, but I'll be back next week with more shots on all things pop.
