Trade-Ins

Chris+BrownWelcome to your weekly dose of pop world musings. Covering all things pop culture, this week Pop Shots is hitting you with thoughts on everything from Chris Brown trading in therapy for chair tossing, to Ke$ha trading in her tour itinerary, to Canada trading in Drake for a better hip-hop artist, and since it's Pop Shots you know everything is seasoned with a little bit of attitude.

* I'm not sure which anger management school gave Chris Brown his diploma, but I'm guessing they're probably regretting it after the R&B singer ripped off his shirt and threw a chair through a window after a Good Morning America appearance last week. Either the lessons didn't really take hold, or throwing a chair through a window is how Brown likes to say good morning to everyone. "Hey, America, it's 7am... KAPLOW!" Up next for Brown will be promoting his Chris Brown alarm clocks. Instead of a radio turning on when you're supposed to wake up, a little Chris Brown throws a chair at you and then tries to sing and dance to make up for it.

* Could you imagine Ke$ha singing "this place about to blow" in a country where everything just did? Thankfully, that will only be happening in our imaginations as Ke$ha has postponed her upcoming tour of Japan. After experiencing a devastating earthquake and tsunami, Japan wasn't prepared to go through another disaster.

* Because there's no place better for a single mother of two to be hanging out than Las Vegas, Britney Spears popped up there on Friday night to give two surprise shows at the Palms Hotel. The city that's home to slots and sluts didn't have Spears for long, though, as later in the weekend she was in San Francisco surprising fans there. According to eonline.com, upon finishing her last song Spears said "I love my music... It's my world. It's my everything," at which point her kids starting Googling therapists in the area.

darius+rucker* Darius Rucker, of Hootie and the Blowfish fame, will be debuting a new song titled "Music from the Heart" at this Sunday's Academy of Country Music Awards. The song was written by young people with developmental disabilities, 25 of whom will be joining Rucker on stage. You just know Ark Music Factory is trying to find a way in to get into the show and sign those kids up.

* Ricky Martin was honored as a role model at the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) Media Awards. No word on if he celebrated by taking all his clothes off and going dancing in the rain, but since the ceremony was held in New York City, in March, if he had we'll find out about it a the Latin Pop Hypothermia Honors.

* Ja Rule used to yell "it's murda" four billion times on his songs. What he apparently meant was "it's evasion" as the rapper just pleaded guilty to failing to file tax returns to the tune of over one million dollars. There is no truth to the rumor that he tried to give the government Ashanti in lieu of payment.

* Canada held it's annual Juno Awards over the weekend, and while I normally don't like to report on award shows, there was something of note that happened at this one. Drake hosted the event, but didn't take home a single honor. His most shocking loss came in the best rap recording category, where the award went to Shad. No word on if the Junos called on the kid from Degrassi to shoot Drake again, but they might as well have. (Incidentally, after checking out Shad).

* Finally, My Chemical Romance made an amazing video for their song "SING." MTV, however, in its infinite wisdom, plays the live concert footage of the song just as often, if not more often, than the actual video. Pop Shots isn't MTV, which is why we're giving you "SING" in all it's weirdly creative glory.

And with that, my time is up for the week, but I'll be back next week with more shots on all things pop.
