Every week, 101D.com will highlight up-and-coming talent in our exclusive Diamonds In The Rough series. This week, we proudly present David Benau. The Chi-town trance artist is looking to turn heads with a soothing flavor of ambience.

Background Check: David Benau is an electronic artist from Chicago who has been making music since the age of nine. At 16 he was singing in an R&B group called Versatile. Looking back on that experience he laughs, saying "we thought we were Boyz II Men, or something." The group disbanded after a year, but Benau stayed on his musical path, releasing his first independent album in 2002, and his latest, Infinity, in 2009. As he's grown in music, he says "the things that used to bother you in the industry don't even matter anymore. You just want the fans to enjoy your music and support the shows."

The Goods: "When people see David Benau I want them to see style. When people come to see a show, I want them to enjoy themselves," and when people hear his latest album, Benau hopes they feel the "Chicago swagger" he put into it. He describes Infinity as "an album that you can go clubbin to, then after that take your girl to her house, or to your house, and listen to." He notes you can even listen to it while in the car, saying "some of the songs are just for having a smooth ride home." Infinity was recorded partially in Los Angeles and partially in Chicago. The studio he used in Chicago was also at one point used by The Isley Brothers, R. Kelly, and Aaliyah.

The Force is With Him: Some artists dream of having big gold chains and diamonds. Benau, on the other hand, would rather have a life size Storm Trooper. "I am a big Star Wars fan," he explains, "I think George Lucas and his production crew were ahead of their time." With this in mind, Benau has some unique home decoration plans. "I plan on making a room at my place with nothing but Star Wars toys, games, and other memorabilia." Martha Stewart may not approve of this, but Carrie Fisher would be proud!
