There's Something About Diddy

diddyHate him or loathe him, you're angry because you have no choice but to respect him. Entreprenuer/Executive Producer/Rapper/Actor Sean "Diddy" Combs has proved without a shadow of a doubt that he can't stop; because he won't stop. Never before has there been a figure in the music industry that people can't put a finger on why they dislike a person, only to dance to all of his hits at a party. Yes, not even 50.

To me, Diddy is in the Top 5 hardest working people in Hip-Hop History, from start to current career position. Russell Simmons is also in that Top 5 just to give you a clue to the seriousness of such a statement. Diddy played his position until he had the power to make his position. He went from intern to label owner, from sidekick to frontman, from rapper to actor, from actor to television producer, from clothing to cologne to alcoholic beverages. Just imagine if he stopped. He can't now.

When his recording artist/friend Christopher "The Notorious B.I.G." Wallace past away, Puff Daddy became a national sweetheart, so to speak. And even at a time when people mourned the death of his friend with him, others complained of his excessive sampling of every 80's hit song he could get his hands on. For each recording artist he debuted on Bad Boy Entertainment, there were 5 artists on his roster that bolstered his catalog but waited sometimes five years to release an album. Diddy gave J. Lo the urban edge she needed to be welcomed on a larger scale; she left him, he rapped a song about needing a girl (in J. Lo's description) and America loved Diddy again.

Mr. Combs built a few groups along that way through his "Making the Band" brand. The show made him more visible than ever. It also shined a light on his business savvy that many would fault him for. When made 'Da Band' walk from Midtown Manhattan to Brooklyn for a cheesecake, his infamy points went up, and so did the ratings for the show. Diddy has found a way to do wrong, so right! What else could we do but watch on in amazement or with our head in hands wondering how he just pulled off the impossible... again.

Currently, Diddy has found a way to manage both Rick Ross and Nicki Minaj, he boasted about being "richer than dem white folk" alongside Waka, is co-signing Jay Electronica and starring in a movie that will be out next week. Can you believe this character?! He is still going. Wow, there is something about Diddy; that I still don't like, yet I must respect.
