Forming in 1989 in Gothenburg, Sweden, Dark Tranquillity is one of a handful of bands widely considered being one of the forefathers of Swedish death metal (along with At the Gates and In Flames).

The band recently celebrated their 20th Anniversary with a double live album and DVD entitled, "Where Death is Most Alive" recorded in Milan, Italy on Halloween night of 2008. The album charted #1 on the Swedish DVD charts and spans their entire spectacular career.

Dark Tranquillity spent the last few months recording the follow up to the bands most successful album to date, 2007's "Fiction" and on March 1st/2nd, they will release this ninth studio album, "We Are The Void", worldwide. The recording process was also filmed by Anders Bjorler (At the Gates/The Haunted) and released as webisodes on their official homepage. They have confirmed their first US Tour of 2010, hitting the road with Killswitch Engage and The Devil Wears Prada throughout February and March.

We spoke with vocalist Mikael Stanne from the comforts of his bed in Gothenberg, Sweden about their 20th anniversary, the upcoming tour with Read More ...
exodusBay Area forefathers of thrash EXODUS will be releasing their ninth studio album, Exhibit B: The Human Condition, this spring.  Guitarist / songwriter Gary Holt checks in about what the band was looking to capture art-wise and why the final version chosen nailed it:

"We wanted to portray the violence of man at its finest, so we started with our own version of the Leonardo da Vinci sketch [of Vitruvian Man], but done the 'EXODUS' way!  I was pointed in the direction of Colin Larks of Rainsong Design for the cover and he killed it!  To me, the artwork represents man and his affinity for bloodshed, ignorance, and all-around ability to be led like sheep to the slaughter.  The image fits the songs on this record perfectly.  The whole layout is going to as sick as the record itself!"

Exhibit B: The Human Condition was recorded this past December in Northern California with producer Andy Sneap (Megadeth, Arch Enemy, Kreator).

lamb%20of%20godLAMB OF GOD drummer Chris Adler has teamed with famed producer Josh Wilbur (Atreyu, Avenged Sevenfold) to produce the new album from the band THIS OR THE APOCALYPSE, which is due out this Spring on Good Fight Music.

With a creative approach, broad vision, and DIY principles, THIS OR THE APOCALYPSE is a group that exhibits the patience and dedication to step outside the box and create something both heavy and unique. With a foundation steadily built from self-released recordings and self- booked tours, THIS OR THE APOCALYPSE signed to LifeForce Records and released their first commercial debut, "Monuments", in September 07 in the US and the rest of the world the following month. The album ripped along at a driving pace, thoughtfully interchanging syncopated polyrhythmic grooves, striking melodies, and a passionate approach unheard in heavy music; blurring the lines between hardcore and metal, dodging the gimmicks of both. THIS OR THE APOCALYPSE joined the debut roster of Good Fight Music in 2010 to release their upcoming album.

Radio is getting the shaft.

I got my start in college radio. I interned at a radio trade magazine. My first full time job was as the metal columnist at a radio trade magazine. I worked on Sirius's 24/7/365 metal channel Hard Attack (before it became Liquid Metal after the merger with XM) for three years. I held the title of Director of Hard Rock Radio promotion at the record label I work for for six years before switching departments. It's obvious that I have quite a deep-seeded love for radio, as it has been a part of my career since the mid-1990s. And while I embrace the digital age and movement and technologies, I've come to see that radio isn't what it used to be, because of these change in technologies, something I often use this space to discuss. I hate seeing radio succumb the way it has. I miss the days when radio was the medium that let me know where I was and what was going on, along with print music magazines. I'm no codger or dinosaur, but missing the past doesn't mean I am holding onto an outdated mode of communication.

What prompted these thoughts was the time I spent driving home from visiting my dad in the Philly suburbs last Saturday and since I had left my iPod converter in a different handbag, I co Read More ...
housecore%20recordsHOUSECORE RECORDS (HCR) is the definitive collection of Philip H. Anselmo's side projects from past to present, and the advancement and release of projects he believes in creatively.  The idea of HOUSECORE records was first concocted in the early to mid 90's at Philip's earliest address by the lake (AKA Colbert Street) after leaving Texas to return to his hometown of New Orleans, LA.  Philip's house was a primary catalyst for the entire project.

With a name that equals the spacey sounds it creates, Shapes Stars Make, a trio from Dallas, Texas, has launched it's sonically ambient music into the world with their debut album, "These Mountains Are Safe", an ambitious, yet subtle post-rock experience that some have likened to Sigur Ros, Mono and Radiohead.

Just a few short years ago, guitarist/vocalist Michael Gooden was originally playing standard-issue indie rock with bassist Jon Cook when they decided to branch off in late 2007 into the more trippy, gently, instrumental shoegaze music of Shapes Makes Stars.

As a duo, Shapes Stars Make recorded a self-titled 6-song EP in just six days with producer John Congleton (Appleseed Cast, Explosions in the Sky) in 2008, with Gooden writing and playing all the drum parts. Shortly after that, they began a serious search for a drummer, which they found in Zachary Edwards. "He's really creative," says Gooden. "The other drummers we had gone through, they could play anything, but they couldn't really come up with crazy original beats. And that's something that stood out with Zach when he auditioned Read More ...
Welcome to your weekly dose of pop world musings. This week Pop Shots is hitting you with a theme based column that's all about pop tarts. Not the kind you eat, but the kind you listen to.

Back in 1999 there was an explosion of blonde haired teen pop stars that was led by a former Mousketeer named Britney Spears. Her debut single, "...Baby One More Time," became a landmark song and as soon as it blew up the record industry was ready to trot out any clone they could find. The scene became flooded with blond pop tarts, some talented, some not so much so. Unfortunately for those singers, Pop Tarts tend to go stale fairly quickly, and now that it's been a little over a decade most of them have seen their time pass. That's why this week I'm strolling through the music industry's breakfast aisle, taking a look at which acts have replaced the pop tarts that are no longer quite as tasty.

Maine isn't really a hotbed of music, especially as far as punk rock is concerned. When Outbreak formed in 2002, the three teenagers knew they would have an uphill battle. But they were prepared for the challenge. "We got a shitty van and decided to go on tour really early on," says frontman and founder Ryan O'Connor. "We had to make up for the fact that we weren't coming from a place that automatically creates interest from someone."

Since then, Outbreak managed to gain a loyal, insane following all over the globe doing things in the traditional DIY fashion: touring their asses off. What started with self-booked tours grew to opening slots for Agnostic Front, and festivals with Rise Against and Taking Back Sunday. Eventually their explosive shows found their way to audiences in most parts of the world. "We started touring pretty much immediately," O'Connor says, "and slowly worked our way around the world."

An Outbreak show is not an exercise in patience. Known for aggressive blasts of high octane hardcore, their sets are generally less than 30 minutes of some of the grittiest, fastest, nastiest punk sets you Read More ...

For what seems like the twentieth year in a row, music sales have gone down and while the industry took to digital sales too slowly, thus allowing a whole generation to place little to no value in buying music for their iPods or cell phones.  Since the CD is now heading to extinction, music labels have to be a bit more creative in how they deliver new music to the masses.  One option is to release 3-4 song 'ep' that is released every 3 months or so constantly giving fans music.  Independent artists have long done this as the cost to record an EP is lower than a full-length album and they also can then sell the EP at shows and finance the next EP recording.

blake%20sheltonThe first major label to try this new approach for releasing music is Warner Music Group and the Nashville branch, Warner Music Nashville.  They're going to try a "Six-pack" approach to albums and are starting with Blake Shelton.  Mr. Shelton will release his first "six-pack" "Hillbilly Bone" (named after the hit duet with Trace Adkins) in early March with another, not yet recorded, six pack album in August or September.  The idea behind Read More ...

Most people thought Another Breath had broken up, but those fools thought wrong. The Syracuse-based collective was only getting started! On their latest offering, The God Complex, the group pens their most captivating material yet!  Throughout this 11-track collection, Another Breath provides an array of delectable hard rock rhythms with fierce punk-inspired melodicism and hardcore appeal while spirituality is dissected like a frog in science class. Although other bands tend to express their religious beliefs in their music, vocalist Ted Winksworth goes deeper than most artists as he sings, and screams, about his many different interpretations dating back as far as childhood.

Another Breath has certainly come a long way since their formation back after high school graduation in 2001. They've grown musically and spiritually, and there's nothing too complex about that. In this 101D.com exclusive, Winksworth goes more in-depth about what the band has been up to in the past five years, his relationship with his father and his complex mindset about God.

I was recently hired to write the bio for Far's new album At Night We Live. Bios are what label press departments submit to journalists with a copy (or a download link to or a stream) of a band's new album, which answers all the basic questions about the band and album, so that the journalist has background information and history and can formulate their questions for the band, and so that the band doesn't have to answer the same questions and naseum about the record and the recording process.

FarFar is one of my favorite bands ever, with their last studio album, 1998's Water & Solutions, being one of my most favorite records of all time. It's desert isle listening. It was completely slept on and criminally underlooked – or was it overlooked? - by the music-purchasing public. That's a bit of a dual-edged sword. Perhaps if more people had been lucky enough to have discovered and loved the band, perhaps their career wouldn't have taken a 12-year break! Or perhaps it would have imploded and they would not have found their way back to one another via a playful cover of an R&B song by Gi Read More ...
kate%20nashKate Nash will release the follow up to her 2008 critically acclaimed debut Made Of Bricks on April 20th here in the U.S. on Fiction/ Geffen Records. The as yet untitled album was produced by former Suede guitarist Bernard Butler and recorded at RAK studios in the UK.

The tracking listing for Kate Nash's sophomore release is: "You'll Never Listen," "Kiss That Girl," "Don't You Want To Share The Guilt," "I Just Love You More," "Do Wah Doo," "Higher Price," "I've Got A Secret," "Mansion Song,"  "Oh Jay," "Later On," "Pickpocket," "You Were So Far Away," and "I Hate Seagulls."

From the outset Kate knew where she wanted to go on her second outing but with the worldwide success and nearly two years of touring after the US release of Made of Bricks in 2008, she took time out to write this album and do "normal things."  Those normal things consisted of finding her first flat, learning to drive and looking after her pet rabbit Fluffy!  Kate learned to play drums and in 2009 became part of a new punk band called The Receeders for which she plays bass!

killswitch%20engageLast week, it was announced that Killswitch Engage vocalist Howard Jones had to unexpectedly leave the band's current headlining tour, leading to a flurry of rumors and questions about the status of the tour and the band. It's a personal matter and while we understand everyone's curiosity and concern for Howard and the band, we appreciate everyone respecting Howard's privacy at this time."

Longtime friend Phil Labonte of All That Remains was able to fill in and help out the band for a few shows and it appears as though he will be filling in for the remainder of the tour, which runs through March. Welcome to your weekly dose of pop world musings. Covering all things pop culture, this week Pop Shots is hitting you with thoughts on everything from MTV ditching a part of their old logo, to an old rock band performing at an old haunt, to an older woman being credited with bringing sexy back in the 80's. 'Chameleon metal' is perhaps the most fitting description for North Carolina's Onward to Olympas, who have just unleashed their debut album, This World Is Not My Home, via Facedown Records. After all, this group - which is comprised of singer Kramer Love, guitarist/singer Justin Gage, guitarist Andrew H, bassist Justin Allman, and drummer Matt Burnside - are hard to pin down to a single metallic subgenre, as elements of hardcore, emo, and good, old fashioned, crunchy metal are all on display throughout. And lest we forget that the group's lyrics are Christian-based, which according to Allman, was not by mistake.

"We claim Christianity as individuals and a lot of bands label us as a 'Christian band' because of that. We definitely don't deny the 'Christian band' label. Most bands will talk about whatever they're passionate about, like girls, sex, drugs - whatever. It just so happens that we are passionate about God. So we write our songs, and the majority of them are about God and our daily struggles - it could be everything from relationships with other people and how that's effecting Read More ...
In the court of law, presenting evidence could mean the difference between freedom and incarceration, possibly death. Each piece of evidence stands on its own, yet comes together to recreate the scene of the crime. No two pieces of evidence are alike, nor can be duplicated to replace the original piece.

The current state of hip-hop has broken every rule spoken of, by way of the unofficial remixes. The point in an unofficial remix is to take a current song, and try to make it better, more importantly, make it your own. By making your name relevant with a song that is currently getting a push by the Mixtape world or a label, you are piggybacking the original. And whether you, as an artist, realize it or not, you are weighing down the record you've stolen from (yes, stolen).

The unofficial remix is a mudslide of, "I could do anything better than you." Even to the artists that see it as a show of respect to the original, you are taking steam away from it. I could become very 1st Grade Teacher-like and ask, "How would you feel if somebody did this to you?" But then I know your answer: I wouldn't care, that means I have a hit song. This is why I speak hip-hop Reform so often. The last time I talked to Chuck D, he talked about how emcees are trying to define what Hip-Hop Read More ...
PennywiseSouth Bay punk pioneers Pennywise have announced that Zoli Teglas of Orange County's Ignite, is the band's new and permanent lead singer.

After months of searching, the members of Pennywise announced that Ignite vocalist Zoli Teglas is now officially the new front man. carly%20simonThirty seven Decembers ago, pop songstress Carly Simon tore up the record charts with her single "You're So Vain." The song captured the number-one slot on both the Billboard Hot 100 and the Adult Contemporary charts, and to this day remains one of the most popular classic rock songs of all time.

Perhaps more than any other track in pop music, the song's central mystery captivated the public. Over the years, "You're So Vain" has been covered by scores of musical artists and the subject of the song has been played over and over again like a musical question, who is the song about?  Ironically, even with all this speculation, the song has never had a music video to accompany it.  To coincide with her critically-acclaimed latest release, NEVER BEEN GONE, fans and filmmakers are invited to submit a music video to accompany the newly recorded or the original version of "You're So Vain" (Contest main page is here - "http://irisrecords.com/CarlySimonVideoContest/" ).  Carly will screen and judge all of the entries herself.  The winning video will be featured on AOL Music's Spinner. Every week, 101D.com will highlight a new artist in the exclusive Diamonds In The Rough Series. This week, we proudly present Till. Not only is he a successful actor and model, but a talented indie singer on the rise with a dedicated fan base that will go to great lengths just to touch him - literally.

Background Check:
Born in Saginaw, Michigan, and raised in South Louisiana, Till is a bona-fide triple threat in the entertainment world. As an actor, he's been a leading man in numerous theatre productions and he's shared the stage with the likes of Kel Mitchell and Buddy Lewis. As a model, he's sold over 10,000 calendars. It's his work as a singer, though, and what he's accomplished in both Gospel and R&B, that's most impressive. Till's musical experiences include everything from sharing the bill with Bobby Valentino and Joe to recording with Gospel legend Keith Dobbins for an album that also included members of Sounds of Blackness. He's even appeared on BET's Bobby Jones Gospel.

R&B singer Devier has an approach to music that has a lot of ladies swooning at his concerts and melting at every spin of his latest album, Romance & True Love. "My philosophy is that I believe in love and romance. A lot of youngsters these days are singing about gettin busy, about kickin it with a girl. That's all fine and dandy, but I feel like every woman deserves to be romanced."

Born in Houston, Texas, and raised in the Bay Area of California, Devier grew up in an artistic household. By the time he was seven he was listening to The Temptations and imitating them to the best of his abilities. "I would stand in front of the mirror and relate what they did," he remembers, "I would make like Eddie Kendricks or David Ruffin."

It wouldn't take long before Devier's mirror was exchanged for a live audience. At the age of ten he performed a song and accompanying piano piece he had composed himself. A handful of years later, at 16, his high soprano voice was noticed by a local singing group.  Everyone in the group was 21, but they wanted Devier to join them.  It was an easy decision for Devier, who was in lo Read More ...
Last week's column regarding the loss of mystique in music really resonated with people. I saw it "retweeted" a few times on Twitter and received a few emails about it from people I didn't forward it to, so that was great to see. Word travels fast. And that was almost the point of the column.

We didn't have flake in NYC, so I guess I should listen to Lewis Black, the comedian, when he says don't listen to the group of assholes who make up the Weather Channel! The point? When you think of hardcore-metal, New Zealand is not usually the first locale that comes to mind. But as evidenced by the vicious attack of local favorites Saving Grace on their sophomore effort, Unbreakable, these lads certainly hold their own. Comprised of members Nick Tautuhi (vocals), Vasely Sapunov (guitars), George White (bass), and Ben Davidson (drums), Saving Grace originally formed in Auckland, circa 2005.

The idea for the band can be traced to a phone conversation between Nick and Vasely, when the singer sought to "Sing about my newly found fondness - not yet commitment - of the Lord. Shortly thereafter, Vasely touched base with two other friends, Bruce Reid (bass) and Mark Stitchbury (drums), resulting in the line-up that unleashed the group's self-titled EP - recorded in just over a month. Subsequent releases followed - including 2008's Behind Enemy Lines - before a more permanent line-up was constructed (featuring White and Davidson as the rhythm section).

Welcome to your weekly dose of pop world musings. Covering all things pop culture, this week Pop Shots is hitting you with thoughts on everything from the Fall Out Boy split, to Jill Scott and Hidden Beach Records heading to court, to Justin Timberlake feeding a man in drag who was dressed as his ex, and since it's Pop Shots you know everything is seasoned with a little bit of attitude.

fall%20out%20boy* Despite published reports, and tweets, there was much less of a fall out within Fall Out Boy than many first believed. According to Pete Wentz and Patrick Stump, the group is taking some time off for members to pursue other endeavors, but there's zero animosity between any of them. Wentz was quoted by the AP saying that it's all been "blown out of proportion." Fans should not be expecting a solo project from Wentz, though, as he noted that's never been an aspiration of his. As an aside, how wild is it that a band named after a comic book character from The Simpsons had a shorter run than the cartoon it came from? Yes, I just managed to make this a story about The Simpsons' l Read More ...
megadethMegadeth founder and frontman Dave Mustaine has announced the return of original bassist David Ellefson (1983-2002) to the iconic multi-platinum group.  This reunion is appropriately timed to Megadeth’s upcoming historic month-long Rust In Peace 20th anniversary tour which launches March 1 in Spokane, WA.  At these incredibly special shows, Megadeth will play their landmark, genre-defining 1990 album Rust In Peace in its entirety, in addition to other Megadeth favorites.

"This shows the power of brotherly love and forgiveness,” Mustaine says.  “David Ellefson belongs in Megadeth. Next we are going to show you the power of getting your asses kicked...HARD!"

David Ellefson concurs: "This is a huge moment for all of us, band and fans alike. It is a great celebration of the music from one of the biggest landmark albums of our career."

Ellefson will join Mustaine and Megadeth band members Shawn Drover (drums) and Chris Broderick (guitar) on tour in support of the group’s current CD Endgame, which has received some of the highest critical accolades of the band’s career.

Ok. So you meet a new person that just happens to be a "Hip-Hop Head (HHH)", right? You're talking about what's in each other's iPods and all that. The energy is building, the lyrics are spewing, you're adlibbing and the vibe is top of the crust. Eventually, it will happen. Somebody will either make or break the mood by asking, "So who is in your top 5?"

Clearly, we're not talking about a feature in your phone service. We are talking about the most important question that any fan of rap music will have to answer. The weight of your reputation rests on your Top 5 emcees. And you better have a Top 5, because if you don't, nothing that you say about music to this person will ever matter again!

So I wanted to give a few examples of what your Top 5 emcee's of all-time says about you, since you will be remembered for all eternity because of it.

1) Your choices will tell your age bracket. I don't know if I could still do it, but I was once able to tell a person's age by the answers given about their favorite artists. For example, people often slip in an artist which they admired (during their teenaged years). And by gauging when that artist was at its best, you could make a good guess at the person's age.

Donning post-apocalyptic attire with faces hidden behind apparatus more suitable for a chemical warfare attack, the imagery is formidable to say the least.  And while this group is very much about the imagery, the entire act is cohesive - from music to lyrics to the live show they promise is anything but calm.  So just who is this unit known as Ventana?  Well, there's something familiar about this band - say maybe a Mushroomhead similarity - and that's right on the mark says mastermind/producer/keyboardist Rick Thomas.

Thomas, perhaps better known as St1tch from Mushroomhead, says Ventana is a five year work in progress and most certainly embraces the similarities. "Things I've learned being in Mushroomhead for ten years are obviously going to be applied to launch this band," he explains. "We use the Mushroomhead resume for leverage, but Ventana has hold up to expectations and be its own entity."

For Ventana, Thomas and company wanted to bring the industrial sound further into a mainstream-friendly environment.  He says by combining obvious influences, such as Ministry, Manson and Nine Inch Nails, with the subtle Read More ...
soilFew bands today encapsulate the tireless work ethic that it takes to succeed at all costs putting their livelihood on the line to take that one shot at rockstardom, well the Chicago based SOIL have taken this hard road and it's now starting to pay off tenfold. This quartet is a the definition of pure hard rock fury with a backbone firmly rooted in heavy metal ultimately resulting in a dynamic, propulsive blend of hard driving anthems.

SOIL's main emphasis focuses on crafting songs with massive hooks and punishing grooves that protrudes an energy that can't be denied. This is most evident with their highly acclaimed latest album, Picture Perfect. The band's latest single, "Lesser Man," is also currently burning up the Active Rock charts lead by solid airplay from such tastemaker stations as WJRR (Orlando), WIIL (Chicago), KXFX (Santa Rosa), WJJO (Madison) and WXQR (Greenville).

rattIt's no secret that RATT are back and raring to go. The band is proud to announce April 20, 2010 as the release date for their Loud & Proud/Roadrunner debut, Infestation, an 11-song opus that is their first studio record in 11 years. The first single, "Best of Me," is scheduled to impact rock radio on February 21. The song is available at all digital stores.

There's been a flurry of activity in the Ratt camp in the past few years. Vocalist Stephen Pearcy has returned to the fold and the band has since signed to Loud & Proud/Roadrunner. The legendary Los Angeles rock squad, also featuring guitarist Warren DeMartini, drummer Bobby Blotzer, bassist Robbie Crane and new guitarist Carlos Cavazo, engineered Hollywood's much-heralded Sunset Strip sound in the 1980s.

"We wanted this to be like something that we would have written right after [1984's] Out of the Cellar," Pearcy said. "We definitely went back to basics with the mindset of a band with a lot of excitement and some great songs to get out." With the sale of 481,000 copies of their album Lady Antebellum defied all expectations and sold nearly Gold in their first week out in the marketplace with their sophomore album Need You Now. The trio, which came to be known in 2008 thanks to hits like "Lookin' For A Good Time,"  "Love Don't Live Here" and their Grammy winner Sunday night, "I Run To You," have certainly helped raise the profile of Nashville-made music with the music community and together with Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood and The Zac Brown Band, they've helped make country music 'safe' for a multitude of audiences.

lady%20antebellumMany people have wondered how two guys (Charles Kelley and Dave Haywood) and one girl (Hillary Scott) came to be known as Lady Antebellum and while that story remains a bit of a mystery, the name has helped separate them from the pack by giving them a distinctive memorable name, instead of something that might resemble a law firm, that is much more 'identifiable' outside of the country music world.  The music released by Lady Antebellum (or Lady A as fans call them) certainly has Read More ...

Iwrestledabearonce. Five words. Written together. No spaces. This truly is an absurd band name. The fact that it was taken from something actor Gary Busey once blurted out on a reality show is even more absurd. But even their name cannot prepare you for the metal experience you're getting yourself into with Iwrestledabearonce.

Jamming every possible style of music that has ever been made into Frankenstein thrashing song grenades, Iwrestledabearonce shape shifts effortlessly and violently on every song of their debut album, It's All Happening. And with song names like, "Tastes Like Kevin Bacon" and "Corey Feldman Holocaust," they don't necessarily take themselves that seriously.

With their over the top schizophrenic sound, their head-turning merch ("metal just got gay" boasts one shirt) and being one of a handful of young bands sponsored by Taco Bell, Iwrestledabearonce (comprised of vocalist Krysta Cameron, guitarists Steven Bradley and John Ganey, bassist Mike Martin and drummer Mike Montgomery) is here to shatter the preconceived conceptions you might have about metal. Mystique. You can't fake it. You just have it. But in 2010, mystique is a lost art, when it comes to bands and the music business.

It's the instant information age, where everyone has a MySpace page, a Facebook page and a Twitter account. Social media, coupled with that oh-so-outdated mode of communication, known as text messaging, allows for people to reveal their whereabouts, at all times. I use all the aforementioned modes of communicating and my thumbs ache because of them. I check my social networking sites 10 times a day. I tweet constantly. I text more than I dial out and make calls. I email more than I answer my phone at work. I write better than I talk; that's my excuse. But in all seriousness, while addicted to the fact that I am constantly connected and plugged in, I do sometimes yearn for less accessibility. Jesus Christ, I use UberTwitter to send tweets from my Blackberry and the program can show your exact geographical location via satellite if you don't disable the function! You can update people on your location, your thoughts, your scandalous activities at any time. I often ask myself, "Does anyone need to know what I am doing, 24/7?" Is it too much? Are we all too available? Isn't there something sexy about a little mystery? About having to find somethin Read More ...

Most teenagers deal with pettiness and disloyalty, but when you're a prodigious rapper, you can draw inspiration of it. Explaining the title of his first mixtape, Everybody Hates Cris, 18-year-old Cris Breeze said, "There's just people around you – you think they've got your back, you think they're supporting you, but they're really not. I felt like I did Everybody Hates Cris by myself. So it was like 'Everybody Hates Chris.'" With a chuckle, he also admits to being a fan of Chris Rock's popular television show of the same name.

Born in Dayton, Ohio and relocated to Cincinnati, Breeze actually looks to Rap's birthplace for his influences. "Most of my inspiration comes from New York. I love New York rappers. That's where it started. I'm a lyrical rapper. I like punch-lines, metaphors and stuff like that," he says, after pointing to Fabolous and Jadakiss specifically. One lesser known rapper that Cris really admires is the late Big L. The Harlem emcee who worked with Jay-Z and Lord Finesse died when Cris was nine years old. The year 2000 brought hope to a world which was scared of being in darkness when the clock struck 12 on New Year's Eve. Y2K it was called. There was a possibility that when the world clocks changed, that computers would read the New Year as 1900. We all know the ending to that story... nothing happened other than one of Prince's hit songs going out of style.

Something happened with the advancing of technology in the new millenniums' first decade that would change the music industry forever. Our personal computers gave us the option to burn discs. And what might've began as a way to back-up more data or music. Similar to other bad ideas in the history of man, the idea started off to mean well, and well, took a turn for the worse. People started off by burning copies of their music; to making their own musical compilations; to making copies for others.

street%20dogsPunk rock proponents for social justice, Street Dogs, have announced plans to return to the studio in February to record their fifth studio album and follow-up to their critically acclaimed 2008 Hellcat debut State of Grace.  The band will be recording with bassist Johnny Rioux as producer and Rick Barton (original Dropkick Murphys guitarist) co-producing at the infamous punk rock studio the Blasting Room in Fort Collins, Colorado which was built by members of Descendents, All and Black Flag.

Punk rock runs deep in the veins of Street Dogs, with former Dropkick Murphys singer Mike McColgan's uncompromising lyrics alongside bassist Johnny Rioux, guitarists Marcus Hollar and Tobe Bean III and drummer Paul Rucker's fist pumping street punk anthems.  The band burst onto the scene in 2002 and has released a string of classic albums including 2008's State of Grace, which critics called "a raucous and purposeful working man's ride" (Dallas Morning News) with "the kind of political streak rarely heard since the Clash" (Cleveland Scene).

A unique R&B trio from Carson, CA, Trey Smoov consists of YC, Vocalz and Mack Daddy. The three men came together under some extraordinarily intense circumstances. "We first started out as two members," Mack Daddy remembers, "Vocalz and I were at a point where we really started to take this music thing seriously when I was in the hospital for Cancer treatments. There was this one song we wrote called ‘Broken Promises' with our ukulele that we later brought to YC and asked him to add some piano to. We recorded it and got a lot of great feedback." Once Mack Daddy got out of the hospital it didn't take long for everyone to decide Trey Smoov should be a trio.
